Call for artist - Newbridge & Weston Arts Trail

Are you a painter, printmaker, photographer, sculptor, jewellery designer, textile artist or anyone involved in the creative arts, who would like to share your work with the local community? If so why not take part in this years Newbridge & Weston Arts Trail, taking place Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th May.

This is an annual event in which artists living in the Newbridge and Weston areas of Bath open their homes to the public. The aim is to create a community event to showcase the diverse range of work produced by local artists.

The inaugural event, in May 2010, attracted more than 300 visitors to events at 20 venues in the area, including private homes, studios, retail premises and the local primary school.

What colour picture mount

It depends if the mount is for your own photograph/picture which will grace your own home or office. Then it’s a personal choice which colour you choose, it can as conservative or as bold as you like. Your choice of colour could be to pick a colour which is within the picture, to enhance it, or to suite the environment in which the picture will hang.
If on the other hand, you require the mounts for your pictures or photographs so you can sell them, then go with the tried and tested colours. Our top sellers for pictures are plain white, textured white and soft white, and for photographs the above colours plus black. The reason for this is that they are neutral colours, and will fit most people’s choice of décor in their homes and offices. While we are talking about selling your mounted work, choose a size of mount that will fit a standard size frame, you are more likely to make a sale, if your customer knows that they can buy a frame easily.
Double mounts are worth the extra cost, as they can further enhance your picture or photograph even more and look really fabulous

Do I need a Mount ?

This is a question , as a picture framer I’m asked, so what is the answer ?
Well the conservation/preservation answer is Yes, the main reason is to keep the glass off the artwork or photograph, because the glass gets a very fine film of condensation on the inner surface, which you do not want transferred to the artwork, very high gloss photographs or prints are especially at risk of getting stuck to the glass.
So that’s the preservation answer, another reason is that of enhancement to the artwork or photograph – to make it look better. By choosing a complementary or a contrasting colour, can bring the artwork/photograph to life.
A mount can also help if your artwork is not a standard size, and you can not find a frame to fit, with a mount, you can choose a larger size frame and have a mount made to fit both the artwork and the frame. Also use a mount to crop a photograph, to take out any unwanted elements from the photo.
